About:

Hobbes Hub was originally an independent website designed to create a “hub” for gaming. This hub would provide a central way to search for and add games to their gaming library. Unlike Steam, this hub is not a place to buy, download, and play games, but rather provides a log of what games you and your friends have across multiple systems, so you can easily identify what games you and your friends can play.

Hobbes Hub was also designed with the goal of expanding into not just a gaming hub but a whole game developer in mind. As such, we wanted to make sure to have a design in mind for how we wanted the social media to look, as well as potentially merchandise to fund ongoing projects.

As an indie company, we knew that a clear, easy, and user-friendly design was the central focus to make game day with friends a little easier.

Work Process

Hobbes Hub was a personal passion project of mine, as it was done for someone close to me, as they worked on one of their passion projects. This extra knowledge gained from years of knowing this person gave me a solid base of understanding in what would be the perfect way to represent them and this project of theirs.

All of the logos took inspiration from the tech and gaming space, with the final logo of a controller being finally decided upon. As for the font, I knew pretty early on I wanted something bold and friendly to help encapsulate the feeling of community he wanted to build his project on. The font for the word mark was then built to represent the idea of computer chips and other peices of tech.

The color palette was designed to be simple and iconic, using a green reminiscent of computer chips but in a slightly cooler tone that lets users know at a glance that Hobbes Hub was a chill and welcoming commmunity with a focus on games and technology. The dark blue is an artistic interpretation of dark screen modes and the ever fashionable black of technologies outer shell.

Together, they work together to give it a modern and chic, yet welcoming feel.

The big part of this project was creating lots of scenes using Adobe XD so that the development team could see what the site would look like, not just as a layout, but in the real world on a screen.
